About EYHA

Welcome to Elmbrook Youth Hockey Association!

Elmbrook Youth Hockey Association (EYHA) is a community-based, non-profit organization formed to instruct, promote, and compete in the sport of ice hockey for the youth of the communities of Brookfield, Elm Grove, Menomonee Falls, Sussex and Wauwatosa.

EYHA is a Division 2, Region 5 member of the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA). For more information on WAHA please log on to www.waha-hockey.com.

Our goal is to develop young hockey players in a safe and enjoyable environment. We ask and expect all participants, volunteers, and spectators to set the finest example by adhering to the USA Hockey Code of Conduct and Zero Tolerance Policy. The Code of Conduct can be found in our “Documents/Forms” tab of the website.

EYHA is a team of volunteers! Without our volunteers, the organization cannot thrive. The goal of the elected volunteer Board of Directors is to make sure your son or daughter is learning and improving in hockey, as well as learning valuable life lessons through participation in the sport.

T
he current Association President is Jeff Oleson. He leads a team consisting of VP On-Ice, Brian Esswein; VP Off-Ice, Tinya Christensen; Treasurer, Anne Fee; and Secretary/Web Master, James Blomquist.

Within the EYHA Board of Directors, there are Level Directors aligned with each level of play. The current level directors are as follows: Mini Mite (5-7 yr olds) - TBD; Mite (7-8 yr olds) - Greg Hilt; Squirt (9-10 yr olds) - John Widmer; Pee Wee (11-12 yr olds) - Jeff Gibson; Bantam (13-14 yr olds) - Jim Ninomiya and Girls U10/U12 - Kevin MacKay.

In addition to the EYHA Board of Directors, other key volunteers include several coordinators. They are Jeff Hawthorne, ACE Coordinator; Kelly Hicks, Registrar; Carl Thiesen, Tournament Coordinator; Brian O’Neill, Referee Coordinator; Kay Smith, Uniform Coordinator; Karen Polzer, Team Manager/Scheduler Coordinator; and Rob Perry, Owner/Manager of The Ponds of Brookfield (our home rink).

The "Executive" tab contains the contact information for the Board members and Coordinator contacts. Please feel free to contact any of these people if you have questions about EYHA.

Each EYHA hockey team will have a Board-approved and USA Hockey certified coaching staff. The staff will be made up of a head coach and 1 to 2 assistant coaches. Each team will also have at least one manager who will help our coaches with game scheduling and general team organization. The coaches and managers will guide their teams with the help of their appropriate Level Director, VP On-Ice, ACE Coordinator, and the association President.

You will have an opportunity mid-season to complete and turn in an anonymous Coach/Manager survey regarding your son or daughter’s coaching staff and team manager. These surveys are reviewed by the President and VP On-Ice and are used for on-going team improvements. This survey will be collected in early January.

The 2010-2011 EYHA season begins with “pre-season” ice available in September to those who are interested. This is followed by team Try-Outs in early October, a parent/coach meeting, then twice per week practices, and eventually games.   In general each team will play one to two games on the weekends.

With respect to travel; there are plenty of competitive hockey teams in southeastern Wisconsin. As an organization we do our best to keep our teams close to home. An out of town weekend tournament or two make their way into most team’s schedules, but this is always at the discretion of the team member families and coaching staff.

The Ponds of Brookfield is our home rink. A significant portion of the Association’s practices and “home games” will be held at The Ponds.

As an association goal, we will focus on individual and team development, not game wins and losses. Development of fundamentally sound ice skaters must come first, then progress into well balanced hockey players, and from there move to the formation of solid hockey teams.

We do our best to place players on the team that suits them best. Our teams will play a wide range of competition. However, we try to keep our games scheduled with competition that benefits each teams’ level of skill and ability.

If you have any questions regarding the “on-ice” specifics of your team, your best source is the head coach, followed by the assistant coach(es) and then the appropriate Level Director. The VP-On Ice and the ACE Coordinator are the next options, followed by the EYHA President.   The team manager is also a great source of information, but if your questions are “on ice” related then please communicates directly with your head coach.

The association holds board meetings on the second Thursday of every month, from 7pm to 9pm at the Brookfield Park & Recreation Building. Members are always welcome and are encouraged to attend.

EYHA has an excellent web site --- www.elmbrookyouthhockey.org. Our web site and member emails are our main communication vehicles.

Thank you for your interest and support in EYHA. We look forward to seeing you at the rink!
